Drug Action Week is a National week of activities to raise awareness about alcohol and other drug issues the theme message will be loud and strong – Alcohol is a drug – TOO! Features include the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Thursday, 26 June, and the gala presentation of the National Drug and Alcohol Awards in Melbourne on Friday, 27 June.

Drug Action Week 2008 is a week of activities held nationally in Australia to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues The week also aims to highlight the achievements of the dedicated individuals who work within the AOD sector to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm. Drug Action Week is an initiative of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) providing individuals, organisations, and communities with the opportunity to initiate and coordinate activities that promote awareness of alcohol and other drugs. Each year a diverse range of voices including State/ Territory AOD organisations, non-government organisations, community groups, the education sector, and the media join with ADCA to speak-out about alcohol and other drug-related issues. ADCA encourages everyone to get involved and raise awareness – together we can make a difference and help to reduce the damaging effects of alcohol and drug use in our communities across Australia. ADCA is working hard to build on past successes to ensure that this year’s Drug Action Week is the best ever!
